Why choose Spain for your fertility traitment?

Everybody knows that many European couples choose Spain for their fertility traitment, but have you ever wondered why ?

Without doubt, one of the main raisons is its legislation : in effect, Spanish law is among the most permissive with regards to assisted reproduction.

Some examples : egg or sperm donation are not allowed in certain countries while in Spain gamete donation –which is, in any case, anonimous is available for everybody, including single women, non-married couples and homosexual couples.

In certain European countries, egg or sperm donation is subject to waiting lists which may be years long. Egg and sperm donors are scarce for several reasons : for example, the fact that they are not anonymous or that egg donors are required to have had children before donating.
In Spain there is no such a problem : in most cases, the process between the first consultation and the embryo transfer takes no more than 2 or 3 months.

Besides, there are other reasons : on the one hand, Spain is a country where medical services are high level and private cliniques undergo very strict controls by the Ministry of Health. On the other hand, Spain has always been on the cutting-edge of fertility and enjoys an excellent reputation at European level.

Here the newest techniques find an immediate application. For instance, embryo and oocyte vitrification have been used in Spain for a decade while in certain European countries they are just starting to become known.

IMSI (Intracytoplasmic Morphologically-Selected Sperm Injection) is one of the techniques which has largely been used in Spain. This technique can solve a number of problems of sperm quality which, not long ago, compelled couples to resort to sperm donation. Oocyte and even embryo donation have been used at the major fertility centres in Spain for over 5 years.
